What's not included

Some checks live outside a pre-purchase inspection. We'd rather call them out than leave you with surprises.

  • Roadworthy / Safety Certificate

A pre-purchase inspection is more thorough than a roadworthy, but it doesn’t replace it. State certs (RWC, Safety Cert, Pink Slip) are separate.

  • Dyno performance test

Available as an optional add-on at select workshops.

  • Paint thickness gauge

Available as an optional add-on. Useful for high-value vehicles.

  • PPSR (finance-owing) check

A separate $2 government check we recommend you run yourself before booking.

Pricing FAQ

How much does a pre-purchase car inspection cost in Australia?+

A standard pre-purchase inspection on AAPPI starts at $250 for sedans and hatches. SUVs, 4WDs and utes start at $325. Mobile inspections (where the inspector travels to the seller) start at $399. Final price is shown by each workshop on AAPPI.

Why is a mobile inspection more expensive?+

Mobile inspections cost more because the inspector travels to the car instead of the car coming to a workshop. There are also some scope limits — without a hoist, the underbody check is shorter than an in-shop inspection.

Are there any hidden fees?+

No. The price you see on each workshop is what you pay. AAPPI handles payment, the workshop confirms the booking, and you receive your report once the inspection is complete. No surprise charges.

Do I pay AAPPI or the workshop?+

You pay AAPPI at the time of booking. We collect, the workshop performs the inspection, and we settle with the workshop weekly. You only ever transact with AAPPI.

What if the workshop cancels or the inspection doesn’t happen?+

If a workshop cancels for any reason and we can’t reschedule with another partner workshop, you receive a full refund.
